Individual Financial Assistance Options

St. Luke's Church completes applications for programs that support with the payment of utility bills. Call 773-227-5747 (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30am-1pm) to apply for the following programs:

  1. LIHEAP (electric and gas): You can only apply once per program year. The LIHEAP application program is from September 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022 or until funding is exhausted. You need a social security number to apply.

  2. Utility Billing Relief (water): You can receive a 50% discount on future bills and forgiveness of past unpaid bills. You need a social security number to apply. You do NOT need a social security number to apply.

  3. Peoples Gas Share the Warmth (gas): You can apply once a year for up to $200. You do NOT need a social security number to apply.

  4. ComEd Hardship Program (electric): You can apply once every two years for up to $500. You do NOT need a social security number to apply.

  • Spanish Coalition for Housing offers emergency rent and mortgage assistance. Call 312-850-2660, 773-342-7575 or 773-933-7575 and leave a message. They do not require a social security number.

  • The City of Chicago offers emergency rental assistance. You have to apply in person at 10 S. Kedzie from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, but you can call first at 312-746-5400 to find out what documents you should bring. You must have proof of a social security number to apply.

  • Catholic Charities has emergency assistance for rent and utility payments. Call 773-349-8835 and leave a message.
